PLURALISTIC PSYCHOTHERAPIST IN NINE ELMS

Psychotherapy for individuals in a safe, comfortable and private setting

Welcome, and thank you for visiting.

You can email me at sam@samlawes.co.uk or fill in the form below.

I am a pluralistic psychotherapist based in South Lambeth/Nine Elms, 6 mins walk from Nine Elms station (Northern Line) and 15 mins from Stockwell (Victoria/Northern). I see clients on weekdays during working hours, usually 10am – 5pm.

At the heart of my work is the person-centred philosophy of Carl Rogers, which holds that we each hold within ourselves a desire and an ability to thrive. I encourage my clients to explore their own behaviours, assumptions about the world, expectations from others, and personal stories.

With this approach, we work together to better understand events and issues in your life, and to bring about useful, meaningful change. The most important person in this process is, of course, you. I am here to guide you, work with you, support you in achieving positive change, and offer insight where appropriate.

My Approach

How I Work

I am a Vauxhall-based psychotherapist with a Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. In my work I take a pluralistic approach. This means we will be able to work together in a variety of ways depending on what works best for you, drawing on psychodynamic and person-centred psychotherapy, transactional analysis, Gestalt, and sometimes bringing in aspects of CBT where it is useful. My work is grounded in person-centred psychotherapy.

You can learn more about this approach here.

I retrained as a psychotherapist after working in early years policy, which made a profound impression on me, showing me how our earliest years shape us, and how unresolved childhood emotions, beliefs and behaviours impact our lives.

What I Can Help With

I work on issues including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Anger
  • Addiction
  • Loss
  • Relationship
  • Parenthood
  • Childhood experiences
  • Personal growth
  • Career

My Philosophy

The reason we explore psychotherapy are as varied as we ourselves are. I have a particular interest in what it is to live a fulfilling, productive life. There is a little allegorical story I love from Carl Roger's work: think of a pack of potatoes left in a dark basement.

The conditions are far from nurturing, yet the potatoes will put out roots and shoots, and before long the pack of potatoes will be bursting with growth. We are driven, always, to thrive. We strive to live and to grow. Psychotherapy can be a great way to help that growth along.

Get in touch

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how psychotherapy works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.

I work from a private residential address approximately 6 mins walk from Nine Elms station (Northern Line) and 15 mins from Stockwell (Victoria/Northern). I see clients on weekdays during working hours, usually 10am – 5pm. I see clients from Nine Elms, Vauxhall, Stockwell, London, Lambeth, Battersea, Wandsworth Road and surrounding areas.

In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer online sessions for clients via Zoom. Contact me to find out more about how online psychotherapy works.
